Eurac Research – Bolzano / Italy

The hall of Eurac Research in Bolzano is today an excellent example of how interior design can transform a transit area into a space for interaction, waiting and informal work. Thanks to the furnishings supplied by Sitlosophy, the headquarters of the research institute is enriched with new configurations designed to encourage interaction, well-being and focus, through a selection of high-level modular seating collections: Berirama, designed by Alessandro Crosera, and Ikebana, created by Paolo & Edi Ciani Design.

A hall as a meeting and working space

In recent years, common areas such as the halls of institutions, universities, research centers and company headquarters have taken on an increasingly important role. They are no longer just areas for passing through or waiting, but real places where relationships are built, quick meetings are organized or a moment of focus away from the desk is found.

The furnishing project of Eurac in Bolzano goes precisely in this direction: creating a multifunctional space capable of welcoming visitors and researchers, offering comfortable and flexible solutions. The modular sofas allow for different types of layouts, from private islands for reserved conversations to open and convivial spaces, always with a contemporary and welcoming design.

The Berirama collection, designed by Alessandro Crosera, was chosen for Eurac’s hall for its ability to combine design, functionality and comfort. Characterized by high backrests, Berirama ensures greater acoustic and visual isolation, creating reserved corners inside a large and bright space such as the Bolzano headquarters.

Its modularity allows for different configurations: from linear solutions to enclosed boxes, ideal for informal meetings or quick work sessions. The choice of blue and petrol upholstery, combined with minimalist tables, helps convey a sense of order and calm, making the environment both welcoming and professional.

Alongside Berirama, the project also included the Ikebana collection by Paolo & Edi Ciani Design, a modular seating system inspired by flexibility and dynamism. Its geometric shapes and light volumes lend themselves to numerous configurations, from linear sofas to open angles, perfect for exchange and collaboration.

The use of color is another distinctive feature: the neutral gray base is combined with mustard backrests and purple or petrol accessories, creating elegant and modern contrasts. Colors here are not only decorative, but functional too: they segment the space, characterize different areas and stimulate creativity.

Quality materials and attention to detail

The furnishing project also stands out for the careful choice of high-quality, durable fabrics, suitable for intensive use in public spaces but still pleasant to the touch and aesthetically refined.

The palette – blue, petrol, gray, mustard, purple – harmonizes with the building’s architecture, featuring large windows, exposed concrete walls and natural wood flooring. The result is a balanced environment where institutional sobriety blends with the vibrancy of contemporary design.

Common spaces as drivers of well-being and productivity

One of the most innovative aspects of the project lies in the role attributed to common spaces. The furniture is not only designed for waiting but becomes a tool for improving work-life quality. Modular seating turns into places for meeting, sharing ideas and relaxing.

In an international research center like Eurac, which welcomes scholars and professionals from all over the world, these environments encourage socialization and the exchange of ideas, fostering a sense of community. At the same time, more private areas allow for quiet work, with the right amount of privacy.

The new furnishings of the Eurac hall in Bolzano are a clear example of how design can meet the needs of complex, multifunctional spaces. Berirama and Ikebana offer a perfect mix of aesthetics, comfort and versatility, reflecting the dynamics of contemporary work environments.

Through careful attention to colors, materials and layouts, the hall becomes a vibrant place, capable of welcoming, inspiring and facilitating the daily activities of those who use it. A project that proves how interior design can significantly contribute to people’s well-being and productivity.
