EN 1335-compliant seating for safe working environments

For SITLOSOPHY®, creating safe and comfortable working environments are two prerogatives for the design and production of the chairs in our catalogues. Many of the executive and operative chairs in the Office collection comply with the UNI EN 1335-1 standard that defines the requirements that office chairs must have.

The use of office chairs that comply with the standards in force is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring suitable working conditions for protection and safety. For a chair to comply with certain standards, the design of the chairs themselves must take into account ergonomic principles and minimum performance and safety requirements.

The dimensional requirements for seating are defined and described in the standard UNI EN 1335-1 Office furniture – Office work chairs – Part 1: Dimensions – Determination of dimensions, the latest version of which came into force on 15 December 2022. This standard, together with UNI EN 1335-2:2018 “Office furniture – Office work chair – Part 2: Safety requirements” is used as the reference standard for determining compliance with Legislative Decree 81/2008 on health and safety in the workplace.

In 2022, a number of updates were introduced that go into greater detail on the determination of measurements and dimensional requirements.

But what are the concrete advantages of using office chairs certified according to EN 1335?

  • Ergonomics: EN 1335-certified chairs are designed to provide optimal ergonomics. This means that they are designed to support your posture correctly and reduce muscle fatigue, preventing any long-term health problems associated with prolonged sitting.
  • Comfort: EN 1335 certified chairs offer a high level of comfort. They are equipped with multiple adjustments, such as seat height, backrest tilt and lumbar support, which allow the user to customise the seat to their own preferences and body needs. All essential features for working in the office as well as at home.
  • Safety: EN 1335 certification guarantees that office chairs meet certain safety standards. Chairs are tested for stability, strength and durability, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring the safety of users.
  • Quality of materials: EN 1335-certified chairs are made of high-quality materials that guarantee strength and durability. This means that these chairs are designed to withstand intensive use and maintain their performance over time, avoiding breakage or premature damage.
  • Regulatory compliance: the use of EN 1335-certified chairs ensures compliance with European occupational health and safety regulations. This can be particularly important for companies, as it demonstrates a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of employees.
  • Reducing health risks: using an EN 1335 certified office chair can help reduce health risks associated with prolonged sitting. Correct posture and proper support can help prevent problems such as back pain, stiff necks, muscle tension and poor blood circulation.

Many of the executive and operative chairs in the Office collection comply with UNI EN 1335 standards (also in the most recent version of 2022) that define dimensional and performance requirements for office chairs.
